The 6th Obanos Medieval Choral Music Competition opens the registration period for 2025.

The Fundación Misterio de Obanos opens from 5th December until 15th February the inscriptions to participate in the competition of Medieval and Renaissance Music a cappella Arnotegui, a contest to be held in May 2025.

The Fundación Misterio de Obanos and the Hermandad de Ermitaños, organisers of the Concurso de Música Medieval y Renacentista a Cappella Arnotegui, have decided to hold the competition on 17th May. This choral singing competition will celebrate its sixth edition in 2025 and will be in memory of our president Juan Manuel Rubio, who passed away in 2024.

Another novelty of the competition, which attracts choirs from all over Spain, is the increase in the amount of the prizes and the financial aid for mileage that the participating groups will receive. In this edition, the prizes for the first three winners are 1,500, 1,000 and 700 euros respectively, in addition to an audience prize of 200 euros. For the next edition, a Jury’s diploma for the best director has also been established.

As on previous occasions, the participating groups must perform a compulsory piece, in this case ‘O Virgo Splendens’ from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, and other freely chosen pieces, which must not exceed a total of 20 minutes in real time.

The complete rules for participating in the competition can be found on the Foundation’s website (https://misteriodeobanos.org/en/rules-of-the-vi-arnotegui-choral-contest/) and entries can be made by emailing fundacionmisteriodeobanos@gmail.com.
