Located in the Media area of Navarra, 20 km from its capital, Pamplona, Valdizarbe or Valle de Ilzarbe is a region that encompasses 12 towns, at the head of which is the capital Puente la Reina.<\/p>\n

The Villa de Obanos is located in the middle Navarra, within the region of Valdizarbe, all of it crossed by the Camino de Santiago. It is precisely in its Hermitage-Bas\u00edlica de Ntra. Sra. de Arnotegui, where one of the most beautiful legends of the Way in Navarre has its origin: The Mystery of San Guillen and Santa Felicia. Obanos is a must for all pilgrims who go to Santiago de Compostela, as it is the place where the two main branches of the Jacobean route join, such as the Somport and Roncesvalles paths, to continue in one to Santiago. The place known as the union of these paths is the hermitage of San Salvador.<\/p>\n

In the years of splendor of the Camino de Santiago, the Villa de Obanos had a hospital to attend to the pilgrims just in front of the old Church at the entrance of the Muruz\u00e1bal path, where the pilgrims from Roncesvalles used to go up. Thanks to the archives of the town hall and the deeds of the houses of Obanos, we know that some of them adjoined Caminos Reales where the original Camino de Santiago normally passed. Thus tracing with great accuracy the route of the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Obanos.<\/p>\n
